Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Visiting Researcher for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Visiting Researcher will be responsible for molecular cloning, cell culture, confocal imaging, and data analysis. The Visiting Researcher will perform molecular, cellular, and imaging experiments. The Visiting Researcher will conduct independent experiments and prepare written and oral reports.

Key Responsibilities

Design, perform, and analyze experiments focused on mammalian cell culture, including isolation and expansion of cells from mouse and human tissues, perform cell survival assays, and transfect mammalian cells.

Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis setups, and confocal microscopes.

Assist in the establishment of performance standards, selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of experimental approaches in support of CHI research.

Keep up to date on relevant literature and assist the PI in preparation of manuscripts and grant applications relevant to own experimental work.

Assist in the instruction and training of students (undergraduate/graduate) in laboratory techniques and procedures.

Maintain clear and detailed records of procedures and experiments in accordance with laboratory guidelines, keep data in shared and readily accessible locations, and communicate and present data to the PI and other lab members in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Recent graduate; bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in biology or biomedicine preferred.

Majored in Medicine, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or relevant biological sciences.

Training in basic experimental techniques, including histology, rodent brain dissection, stereotaxic surgeries for intracerebroventricular injections, and fluorescent microscopy.

Effective oral and written communication skills and proficiency in English.

Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Highly motivated, excellent organizational skills, able to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the PI.

Ability to assist in daily lab management, including training and direct oversight of personnel and students.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with biomedical research (basic or clinical).

Experience with animal behavioral techniques.

History of prior publications.

Excellent writing skills and experience in writing grants, fellowships, manuscripts, or scientific reports.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to work in a laboratory environment and perform laboratory research.

Exposure to laboratory environment, moderate noise, and hazardous chemicals.

Light lifting of office supplies, files, or light boxes up to 25 pounds.

Walking, standing, sitting required.

Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required laboratory safety training.

Follow all safety precautions in laboratory.
