Engineering Mechanics & Infrastructure (EMI) Team The EMI team at SGH is always looking for great talent and especially people who enjoy solving difficult problems in a creative way. Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) applies engineering mechanics, materials science, numerical simulation, innovative technologies, and collective expertise to solve our clients' toughest problems in an inspiring work environment that nurtures life‑long learning and growth. A successful candidate for EMI may work on projects related to buildings, bridges, pipelines, nuclear facilities, tanks, rail vehicles, rotating equipment, precision observatory structures, and other non‑building structures and systems. SGH works on challenging projects for owners, contractors, and other engineering firms on a wide spectrum of projects that include nuclear and defense.
What You'll Be Doing
Perform structural analyses under supervision.
Design new structures and repairs of existing structures.
Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analyses, under supervision, using programs such as LS-DYNA, Abaqus and ANSYS.
Work on routine problems independently and on project teams.
Assist in preparation of proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
Review work by technicians, draftsmen, and others assisting the project team.
Conduct field inspections and support in‑house lab work.
Conduct engineering calculations, using software such as Matlab and Mathcad.
What You'll Need
0 2 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics. Will consider more experienced applicants for Project Consultant roles.
Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or similar field; we are also open to hiring a bachelor's degree candidate who is on track to complete a Master of Science or Master of Engineering program.
Education must have an emphasis on structural analysis, structural dynamics, and/or engineering mechanics (e.g., civil, structural, mechanical, or similar engineering discipline)
Education/experience in finite element analysis (FEA), preferred
Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration within five years.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients
Have proficient computer program skills, in programming languages such as Python and VBA
Ability to travel and perform field inspection of structures under supervision
Valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, if applicable

Compensation This compensation range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The pay range below is effective for 2026 and based on highest degree achieved. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and work location.
Bachelors Degree: $79,560 - $81,640
Masters Degree: $83,200 - $85,280
Doctorate Degree: $90,480 - $92,560
Base salary is a part of SGH's industry‑leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH's Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
