Position Overview
Manulife / John Hancock Technology Office is seeking an Architecture Leader to own and drive Domain Architecture across the US segment supporting multiple high-profile initiatives. This role will lead a team of domain architects to design and deliver highly scalable solutions that leverage our strategic capabilities to support our digital, customer‑centric transformation.
Office location:
Boston, USA (ideal); Toronto, Canada (alternatively).
Work arrangement:
Hybrid – 3 days in office, 2 days from home.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of Domain Architects (infrastructure, application, data, web/mobile, integration, etc.) horizontally aligned to various delivery streams to drive architecture for high‑profile initiatives.
Partner with business and IT leaders to understand, prioritize and align domain architecture, roadmap and related deliverables.
Own and drive the target state architecture maturity and business & technical platform alignment.
Champion domain architecture reviews and process maturity to showcase alignment and adoption of enterprise standards, reducing technical debt and improving experience.
Communicate architecture value in terms of alignment to functional and non‑functional requirements to design and deliver solutions in an easier, better, faster manner.
Lead and drive team to automate and drive efficiencies by iterative and value‑driven approaches.
Facilitate and contribute to design reviews and provide appropriate feedback.
Ensure designs are produced to satisfy conceptual, logical and physical views, and align to both segment and global domain architecture assurance standards.
Identify complex issues in a timely manner and provide mitigation recommendations to the relevant delivery and business partner leads.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent combination).
10+ years overall IT experience with 10+ years of systems or application development experience.
Proven experience as a senior SME or Architect in infrastructure, cloud platforms, web/mobile, data, integration, etc.
Financial services industry experience highly preferred; insurance domain preferred.
Exposure to new technologies, architecture frameworks, design patterns, and automation frameworks.
Experience leading a team of technical members including platform engineers and architects.
Prior experience leading a domain or technology architecture office or program with a successful track record.
Strong storytelling ability to communicate architectural concepts and value to diverse audiences.
Excellent interpersonal, team building, time management, and presentation skills.
Experience articulating financial and business impact of technology architecture alternatives, including cost‑benefit analysis, TCO, etc.
Understanding and exposure to security, compliance standards and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to the life insurance industry within financial services.
Experience with Azure, AWS, and cloud‑centric well‑architected frameworks.
Knowledge of DevSecOps, Site Reliability Engineering concepts, and automated delivery pipelines.
Benefits and Compensation Salary range: $124,250.00 USD – $230,750.00 USD (dependent on location and experience). Eligible employees have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn compensation tied to business and individual performance.
