While this role can be ambiguous, we require a combination of technical and business skills to prioritize our most important work and shape Oracle’s database offerings into future states of technology, such as the age of Agentic AI.

Responsibilities

Drive technical excellence for relational database management systems (RDBMS) including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DB2, and cloud-native RDBMS such as Amazon Aurora, Google Cloud Spanner, or Azure SQL.

Deep hands‑on experience with database architecture, performance tuning, data modeling (OLTP and OLAP), and SQL/query optimization.

Lead migration strategies (e.g., Oracle to PostgreSQL, on‑prem to cloud) and design high‑availability, replication, disaster recovery, and backup solutions.

Strategically design enterprise‑scale data architectures; evaluate data governance, lineage, and compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).

Serve as a force multiplier for the CTO or Chief Architect, coordinating initiatives across multiple technical teams and producing executive‑level artifacts and detailed technical documentation.

Provide senior leadership with strategic and architectural thinking, including buy‑vs‑build and vendor solution assessments.

Mentor engineers and advise senior tech leaders without direct authority; facilitate meetings and resolve conflicts diplomatically.

Qualifications

10–20+ years in software engineering, database administration, or data architecture roles.

Prior experience as a Principal Engineer, Database Architect, Data Platform Lead, or Engineering Manager for data‑heavy systems.

Strong experience with cloud‑native architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure) and managed RDBMS services.

Comfortable reading and writing in multiple coding languages such as C or C++.

Bonus: Experience as a Chief Architect or Technical Advisor in a fast‑paced, matrixed organization.
