Architect, build, and test Gusto’s product suite across Payroll, Benefits, HR, Time, Tax Credits, and more. Mentor other engineers to solve complex technical problems in large-scale domains. Help scale and maintain one of the largest Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React applications in the world. Collaborate with Product Management and Design to understand customer pain points, prototype, iterate, and launch new features. Build a product that our customers genuinely love. What We’re Looking For
8+ years of software development experience. Experience owning multi‑quarter projects that deliver measurable customer impact at scale. Experience building scalable solutions that eliminate customer pain. Effective communication across engineering teams and business stakeholders. Experience with Ruby on Rails. Mentoring engineers to maximize performance and impact. Strong sense of ownership over product area, performance and reliability. Passion for creating memorable customer experiences. Commitment to a collaborative, test‑driven environment. Well‑structured, maintainable, well‑documented code. Preferred
Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development, improve testing, and deliver new product capabilities. Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks and best practices. Please note that travel to Gusto's Denver office for onboarding is required for this position. Compensation in Denver: $163,000–$204,000 per year (remote options vary); stock equity additional. Final offer based on experience. Gusto is an equal‑opportunity employer.
