Cole-Frieman & Mallon LLP (CFM) is a prestigious boutique law firm based in San Francisco with a robust national practice, representing private funds (including hedge, VC/PE, and hybrid structures) and their managers. Our firm advises on over 300 fund launches each year. Additionally, CFM has highly regarded practices focusing on cryptocurrency and digital asset transactional matters, as well as cybersecurity.

We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance/Controller to support our SF Bay Area and other locations. The position will be based in either the San Francisco Bay Area or in Denver and reports to the Executive Director. The Director of Finance/Controller is responsible for the companys long-term financial health and growth. They establish strategies that will earn profits, oversee accounting operations, produce accurate reports, and improve or change current practices to increase efficiency.

This role is responsible for the following tasks: Manage and drive finance department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements as needed. Prepare monthly financial reports and explanation of distributions. Complete month-end and year-end closing of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and complete G/L entries and analysis. Work with executive director, department heads and partners to develop annual budgets. Assess, execute, and improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings and collections, payroll, and cash management. Record year-end adjusting entries as needed. Properly allocate partner distributions, contributions, and expenses. Maintain chart of accounts. Prepare annual 1099 filing for CPA. Manage and administer pension and retirement plans. Work closely with third party administrator to insure timely annual return filings and compliance. Manage banking relationships. Manage credit card reconciliation and issuance of cards to identified employees. Work closely with CPA and provide all necessary information on a quarterly and annual basis for tax filings.

The ideal candidate should possess the following: 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Advanced MS Excel skills required. Experience as a Director of Finance or Controller preferred. Background working with month-end closings and year-end close experience required. Management experience desired. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment. Ability to prioritize responsibilities and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent. BA/BS in accounting, finance, economics, or another business-related field. Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experienced in preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements. Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes. Previous experience in law firms is highly valued. TABS experience preferred.

Compensation Range: $130,000

$170,000 annually
