Our client in the education field is seeking an

Assistant Director of Payroll

to oversee payroll services across multiple divisions. This role supervises payroll staff, ensures compliance with all regulations, and maintains strong internal controls for payroll processing and reporting. The ideal candidate has expertise in payroll systems, multi-state payroll, and interpreting complex payroll laws.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee payroll services, ensuring timely and accurate processing of salaries, taxes, and benefits for employees. Develop and maintain effective internal controls for payroll activities. Manage payroll reconciliation, including retirement plans, tax services, insurance, savings plans, garnishments, and international compliance. Prepare management reports and ad hoc compensation analyses. Liaise with auditors, tax preparers, and granting agencies. Recruit, train, and develop payroll staff. Support business office operations and contribute to process improvements. Lead or support special projects and seasonal assignments.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Management, Human Resources, or a related field required. An Associates degree with at least 10 years of payroll, HRIS, and GL accounting experience will be considered. Minimum 5 years of experience with computerized ERP HR/payroll systems. At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Excel. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification preferred. Multi-state payroll experience strongly preferred. Ability to interpret and apply complex payroll laws and regulations required. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically

$75,000 - $95,000 annually . This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
