The Software Engineer designs, develops, and tests software applications and products. Additionally, the Software Engineer manages software development teams, provides technical leadership, and establishes software development lifecycle practices and processes. The Software Engineer is proficient in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, Ruby, Python, Scala, and Groovy. In this role, the Software Engineer requires extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, computer operating systems, Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI / CD), DevOps, API development, container development, and distributed systems. The Software Engineer also applies engineering principles to software creation, manages production releases, performs code reviews, merges feature branches, and analyzes issues. Key responsibilities include software development, debugging, modification, and documentation; designing, testing, and developing software to meet requirements; maintaining kernel and user-level software; and contributing to research reports and proposals. Additional responsibilities involve managing software project requirements, working closely with DoD customers, and ensuring implementations meet operational needs. Minimum qualifications include 2+ years of experience in range software training solutions, with preferred qualifications such as an active Top-Secret Clearance, leadership experience, and proficiency in C++, C, and Python. Travel requirements are 10-25%. The position is open-rank, with final hiring contingent on qualifications and in accordance with Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook. Due to federal contracts, candidates must be U.S. Citizens and able to obtain an active security clearance.
