What to Expect
The Safety & Restraints Validation Engineer is responsible for the planning, coordination, tracking, execution and reporting of all the activities related to the validation of the airbags and/or seat belt systems for all Tesla vehicle platforms.
You will be responsible for the successful execution of all the component and system validation stages, including Concept Validation (CV), Design Validation (DV), Production Validation (PV) and post launch engineering changes. In addition, you will also be responsible for ensuring that all homologation requirements are met on a timely manner at the component and system levels.
In this role you will collaborate with cross functional teams within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, Testing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Supply Management groups.
What You'll Do
Creation and execution of validation plans (DVP&R and SVP&R) of vehicle occupant safety systems and components
Procurement of vehicle parts, fixtures and vehicle bodies necessary for the proper execution of the various validation phases
Design and coordinate the construction of fixtures for testing of airbag and/or seatbelt systems
Coordinate and support the validation of occupant safety products with Tesla and third-party testing groups
Analyze test results and identify adjustments required for either the restraint commodity or interfacing components, determining the most effective resolution
Ensure suppliers meet timing deadlines on validation deliverables
Oversee supplier component DVP and control system level testing to ensure desired performance is achieved prior to dynamic sled and vehicle testing
Support dynamic sled & vehicle crash tests and homologation submissions
Ensure failure avoidance tools and processes (DFMEA/FMA) are applied to restraint components
Analyze field reliability data of current programs to improve Interior Reliability through design/process/manufacturing changes
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
Good understanding and experience in vehicle safety restraint systems and/or vehicle crashworthiness is desired
Engineering fundamentals and mechanical aptitude in problem-solving and conducting engineering analyses
Experience in component and system design verification plan creation and execution, as well as the utilization of DFMEA, DOE, 6Sigma, Failure Analysis and DVP&R tools
Ability to interact and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the different levels of system validation
Effective verbal and written skills to articulate technical issues with peers and suppliers
Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and analysis of engineering issues and validation testing
Ability to multitask, with ability to be flexible regarding evolving priorities
Proficient computer skills with MS Office Suite, CAD knowledge (Catia preferred)
HyperWorks or X-Crash software knowledge (preferred)

Expected Compensation $92,720 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
