Audience Producer

The Audience Produce r is a digital ly savvy journalist who will join the Times of San Diego team. Times of San Diego is a nonprofit news organization based in San Diego, California . This role will require a strong understanding of digital audiences and analytics and the ability to create social media and newsletter content . In particular, this produce r wi ll coordinate our efforts in growing audience and digital touchpoints across our suite of newsletters, social medi a, searc h engines, partners and beyond. The audience produce r creates engaging social media and newsletter content and works toward constant iteration and improvement. Times of San Diego launched in 2014, joined NEWSWELL in 2024 and joined forces with the San Diego Community Newspaper Group earlier this year . NEWSWELL helps newsrooms become nonprofit and for- community. It provides strategic guidance, innovative solutions and wrap-around operations so local journalists can focus on local news, and newsrooms can best serve their communities. NEWSWELL partners with Arizona State University, the nation’s most innovative 10 years in a row, to offer game-changing ideas, tools and research. NEWSWELL transforms local news to help communities and democracy thrive. The pay scale for this position ranges from $22.85/hr. - $24.76/hr. What you'll do Create and coordinate content for social media, including photos, videos, graphics and written posts, and manage our social media brand accounts.

Write and edit engaging email newsletters that bolster our journalism and convey our community-driven mission .

Coordinate freelance newsletter hosts for our suite of community newsletters.

Lead digital and email-based membership and fundraising campaigns and manage subscriber lists.

Drive audience engagement through social media, SEO and immersive content.

Track engagement efforts and respond to trends t hrough regular revie w of me trics .

Work with newsroom leaders to build and optimize workflow, collaboration and training.

Stay current on newsletter and social media trends, develop strategies to optimize experiences and experiment with innovative tools and techniques.

Promot e events that cultivate relationships with our me mbers a nd readers.

Ensure all content is fact- checked; mobile- friendly meets ethical journalism and accessibility standards.

What you'll need Strong analytical, data and writing skills, with a keen eye for detail , a commitment to accuracy and solid news judgment .

Ability to multitask and excel under deadline pressure, using time efficiently.

A passion for local news and a commitment to serving the community.

Track record of producing high-quality content for social media, newsletters and digital platforms.

Ability to design visuals using Canva or similar programs

Relevant qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism or related field related or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

One to two years of cr eating and managing digital, email an d soc ial media content.
