Chief Operating Officer

Overview
The goal of FiftyForward is to assist adults 50+ in Middle Tennessee to live longer, more fulfilling lives through innovative programs and services. Committed and compassionate staff, volunteers, and partners form a powerful leadership team positively impacting older adults, their families, and the community.
Summary/Objective
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations of activities in FiftyForward, ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of adults over 50, their families, and the broader community, while maintaining alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
Essential Functions (Duties/Responsibilities)
Leadership and Operations:
Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations, projects, and systems. Oversee the operational management of FiftyForward’s centers, including center operations, staffing, membership, and program and services execution. Ensure that all centers provide a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for FiftyForward members, program participants, volunteers partners, and the community. Establish, document and continuously improve operational policies, processes, procedures, and performance standards to ensure consistency and excellence across all centers. Collaborate with center directors, program directors, volunteer engagement, development, finance and other stakeholders to identify operational challenges and implement solutions. Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
Program Management
Oversee the development and execution of diverse, high-quality programs and services in FiftyForward’s centers and in the community that support the social, physical, and mental well-being of adults 50 and over. Ensure that programs meet the needs of the 50+ adult community, including fitness, health, social, educational, and recreational offerings. Partner with regional nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, public and private funders, and volunteers to strengthen and evolve FiftyForward’s services and programs to meet the evolving and diversifying needs of the aging adult population in Middle Tennessee.
Strategic Planning
Work closely with the CEO and executive team, as well as center, program and operations leaders, to develop and implement strategic plans to grow and sustain FiftyForward’s operations, programs, and services. Assess regional trends related to all aspects of aging in Middle Tennessee, as well as member, program participant and broader community feedback and input to inform program development and service expansion opportunities. Develop strategies and plans to address the subsequent operational impacts of these opportunities on FiftyForward’s organizational, operational and financial environment. Lead initiatives to grow membership, increase public engagement around and participation in FiftyForward’s programs, and boost the visibility of FiftyForward’s programs and services across the Middle Tennessee community.
Financial Oversight
Manage the budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation for all centers, programs and organizational operations in close collaboration with center, program and operations leaders and executive leadership. Ensure efficient use of resources and maintain financial accountability, including the development and management of cost control and revenue generation initiatives, in close collaboration with the executive team. Collaborate with the finance team to track and report financial performance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and intended outcomes.
Staff Management And Development
Lead, mentor, support, and manage a team of directors, program managers, and operational staff. Foster a collaborative and engaging work environment, supporting professional development opportunities for staff. Ensure effective recruitment, retention, and training strategies to maintain a highly skilled, highly effective and remarkably compassionate team.
Compliance And Risk Management
Develop and implement risk management strategies, ensuring the safety and security of all members, staff, and facilities. Stay informed about industry trends, legal requirements, and best practices for the programs and services FiftyForward provides. Ensure all centers, programs and services operate in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards. Oversee and support the timely submission and record-keeping of all required reports, including accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the number of persons served, number of paid members, units and types of service provided and progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives across all center, program and operations teams. Ensure that records are compliant with agency and funding source requirements.
Community Engagement And Partnerships
Support development team, fundraising and grant opportunities to drive increased program and service effectiveness and enhancements to FiftyForward’s centers.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 7+ years of leadership experience in operations management, senior services administration, healthcare management or nonprofit management. Proven track record of managing multi-site operations, leading teams, and overseeing program development and effectiveness, including continuous improvement efforts. Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and driving operational efficiency. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to build consensus and lead diverse teams. Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to facility operations and governmental grant compliance, management and reporting. Passion for working with older adults and a commitment to improving their quality of life.
