Facilities Manager – Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) At the University of California, Berkeley, we are dedicated to fostering a community where everyone feels welcome and can thrive. Our culture of openness, freedom, and belonging makes it a special place for students, faculty, and staff.

Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) at UC Berkeley is responsible for 30 NCAA Division 1 sports programs and approximately 850 student athletes. The Facilities unit provides daily maintenance and operational support to coaches, staff, and participants in athletic programming.

Position Summary This position involves the maintenance and support of athletic buildings, including managing logistics such as maintenance, resource scheduling, facility scheduling, vendors, and equipment/furniture setup. The role facilitates communication and services with campus partners, internal staff, and event participants, and provides support for these activities.

Responsibilities

Work with all components of assigned buildings and oversee operation, maintenance, and repair.

Perform routine checks of all building components, identifying those that require repair.

Serve as the main point of contact for building issues, stakeholders, occupants, and other campus entities.

Manage trade workers and their specific work in and around athletics facilities.

Identify, prioritize, assign, and track work for employees, ensuring tasks are completed on time with assistance as needed.

Provide direction to student workers assisting with facility setups and tasks.

Serve as facility support staff member for any sporting and special events held in the assigned buildings.

Work closely with athletics event staff on setup and operation of sporting events, ensuring technical and equipment portions run appropriately.

Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and campus stakeholders on work performed within buildings.

Update and maintain work agreements with Campus Facility Services, approve work orders, and ensure required maintenance is scheduled.

Perform quality control checks across facilities, identifying improvement areas, new projects, and issues for staff to address.

Engage in professional development as required.

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, and departmental principles related to risk assessment.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Service orientation and effective problem‑solving abilities.

Knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts.

Ability to multi‑task and prioritize daily activities effectively.

Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience or training.

Salary & Benefits The budgeted annual salary range expected for this position is $89,992.36 (Step 1) – $99,355.34 (Step 6). The full salary range for this classification is $89,992.36 (Step 1) – $133,731.15 (Step 21). This is an exempt, monthly‑paid position.
