Overview We are seeking a forward‑thinking
Director of Cloud Platforms
to lead the strategy, engineering, and operations of our multi‑cloud environment. This role is central to driving innovation, scalability, and reliability across our global operations, with ownership of cloud platform products that enable developer self‑service, automation, and modernized cloud delivery. The Director will guide the evolution of our cloud ecosystem—primarily AWS (75%), with additional footprint in Azure, OCI, and GCP—while leading a distributed team of 8–12 engineers and partnering closely with our Developer Platform team to accelerate migration to AWS‑native architectures.
Responsibilities
Lead Cloud Operations & Engineering – Oversee daily operations, engineering, governance, and optimization of our multi‑cloud environment. Ensure 99.99%+ platform availability, performance, cost efficiency, and security across AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP.
Drive Cloud Product Development – Own the full lifecycle of cloud platform products including self‑service portals, automation frameworks, golden images, and standardized cloud patterns. Build capabilities that improve developer productivity and reduce operational friction.
Champion Cloud Modernization – Collaborate with Developer Platform and Architecture teams to refactor legacy workloads into scalable, AWS‑native architectures. Lead the migration of on‑premise I&O systems to cloud‑native services and modern operational models.
Build & Mentor High‑Impact Teams – Manage and develop a high‑performing, primarily remote team of cloud engineers. Foster a DevOps/SRE culture including blameless postmortems, automation‑first mindsets, and continuous improvement.
Strategic Planning & Influence – Contribute to multi‑year cloud strategy, roadmap development, budget planning, and vendor relationships. Ensure compliance with standards and regulations such as SOC 2, GDPR, and internal cloud governance.
Travel Requirements
Periodic travel for team alignment and strategic planning sessions. Estimated 5‑10% travel time required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field—or equivalent experience.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect (preferred).
Multi‑cloud certifications (nice to have).
ITIL or DevOps certifications (beneficial).Demonstrated ability to lead and scale distributed engineering teams.
Strong strategic and operational mindset with experience driving large‑scale migrations.
Excellent communication skills across engineering, product, and operations teams.
Data‑driven decision‑making capabilities with empathy for distributed teams.
Understanding of SRE principles, zero‑trust security models, and observability best practices.
Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CDK/CloudFormation, Pulumi).
Container orchestration platforms (ECS, Kubernetes/EKS, Docker).
CI/CD pipeline tools (AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
Automation scripting languages (Python, Bash).
Monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace).
AWS services expertise (Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3, RDS, etc.).
10+ years in cloud engineering, cloud platform development, or cloud operations.
5+ years leading distributed engineering teams.
Significant hands‑on AWS experience with proven success modernizing legacy systems.
Experience building self‑service or platform engineering capabilities.
Experience equivalent to the education requirement may be accepted in lieu of the education requirement.
