Overview We are seeking a Principal Landscape Architect to serve as a business developer and co‑team leader for our Boston‑based Landscape Architecture Team. The role emphasizes design leadership, guiding concept development, ensuring design integrity through all phases, mentoring team members, and business development.
Key Responsibilities
Business development: foster existing client relationships, develop new opportunities, conduct market research, strategy, proposal development, branding, partnership cultivation, and monitor performance indicators.
Proposal preparation, coordination, and review.
Client‑facing responsibilities on key assignments.
Support projects and pursuits led by other disciplines.
Manage large, multidisciplinary projects from scoping to construction administration.
Promote design excellence and develop creative solutions.
Maintain project budgets.
Quality‑control review of deliverables.
Oversee and manage staff; mentor team.
Facilitate inter‑office and inter‑disciplinary collaboration.
Foster a positive collaborative environment within the Boston Community Development Team.
Capabilities & Credentials
Licensed Landscape Architect.
Experience with public and private sectors in the Northeast.
Demonstrated responsibility, maturity, and commitment to a team‑driven environment.
Expertise in resilient and sustainable designs.
Desire and ability to lead and contribute on multiple levels within the design process.
Excellent creative and critical thinking skills.
Ability to integrate sustainability into planning and design.
Well‑versed in local, regional, and national trends in planning, landscape architecture, and urban design.
Ability to scope and deliver multi‑disciplinary projects.
Strong communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly and confidently.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office; Civil3D and LandFX experience preferred.
High‑level understanding and supervisory knowledge of GIS, SketchUp, Rhino or similar platforms.
Excellent time‑management skills.
Understanding of task assignments, budgets, codes, legal and design requirements.
Proven client‑relationship building and ability to convert relationships into new work.
Experience conducting presentations and project interviews.
Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited Landscape Architecture program.
Minimum 15 years of experience preferred.
Pay Range
Boston, MA – $120,400 – $180,500 annually.
