Manufacturing Engineer - Instrumentation (NPI + Sustaining)
Industry: Biotech / Instrumentation
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Compensation: $48-55/hour DOE
Type: 6-month Contract (possible extension)
Responsibilities
Support manufacturing engineering activities across NPI and sustaining programs from prototype through full‑scale production.
Develop and refine manufacturing processes, work instructions, and documentation for production scale‑up.
Investigate field and production issues to identify root causes and drive improvements.
Support CAPA activities with internal teams and contract manufacturers.
Perform hands‑on troubleshooting of mechanical, optical, and electromechanical subsystems.
Maintain and update technical documentation, including BOMs, ECOs, risk assessments, and manufacturing instructions.
Collaborate with quality and compliance teams to ensure alignment with design controls and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills (Must‑Haves)
Manufacturing process development experience (process creation, refinement, scale‑up).
Strong technical documentation skills (work instructions, ECOs, manufacturing documentation, etc.).
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Skills
Experience supporting NPI builds, pilot builds, or design transfer.
CAD experience (SolidWorks or other 3D modeling tools).
Experience troubleshooting mechanical or electromechanical subsystems.
Understanding of DFM/DFA, lean principles, or continuous improvement methodologies.
Exposure to reliability concepts (MTBF/MTTR), FMEA, or CAPA processes.
Experience working in ISO 13485 or other regulated environments.
Familiarity with Python, Jira, Confluence, Oracle ERP, or Arena PLM.
Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, operations, manufacturing, and service teams.
