We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Property Accountant to join our accounting team with a focus on affordable housing portfolios. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in property accounting, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting, with hands‑on expertise in Yardi and Excel. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and compliance with HUD, LIHTC, and other affordable housing program requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of affordable housing properties, including monthly close, bank reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.

Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and affordable housing regulations.

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including fixed assets, prepaids, and intercompany activity.

Monitor cash activity, prepare funding requests, and track restricted cash accounts.

Coordinate with property managers on budgets, operating results, and variance explanations.

Support annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting for affordable housing entities (HUD, LIHTC, state agencies).

Utilize Yardi for property-level accounting, reporting, and system maintenance.

Create and maintain advanced Excel models for cash flow projections, compliance tracking, and management reporting.

Partner cross-functionally with asset management, compliance, and operations teams to ensure accurate financial oversight.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

3–5+ years of property accounting experience, with significant exposure to affordable housing (HUD, LIHTC, Section 8/Section 42 programs).

Strong knowledge of GAAP and affordable housing compliance requirements.

Proficiency in Yardi or MRI (required).

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

CPA or CPA track preferred, but not required.
