Job Description The Banking Application Architect delivers as a hands‑on practitioner. You’ll find yourself delivering standards, patterns, and designs to First Horizon’s technology organization, while engaging diligently with the teams of developers implementing them. Your scope of influence includes stability, observability, portability, SDLC management, and producing technical requirements and solution designs that align to business needs. You will join the frontline in ensuring we can meet the bank’s business needs while delivering a modern digital stack.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage solution design from conception, through ARB, to delivery
Produce architecture documentation for digital banking applications
Maintain First Horizon’s Solution Inventory as a member of the Core Enterprise Architecture Team
Partner with line‑of‑business partners, delivery teams, and SMEs to produce and refine product requirements
Design components and interactions of solution architectures that deliver intended business outcomes
Collaborate with architects in other domains (Data, Security, Infra, Cloud, DevOps) to produce consensus and governance
Lead solution‑design workshops and emerging‑technology PoC workshops
Validate third‑party/vendor solutions
Align IT strategy and planning with business goals and objectives
Promote use of shared infrastructure and application roadmap to reduce costs and improve information flow
Collaborate on roadmaps to align IT priorities with business partner requirements and strategies
Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with influential technical decision makers
Work with developers to ensure technical solutions align with Enterprise Architecture Standards & Patterns
Work with Portfolio technology leaders to include technical debt initiatives in the portfolio roadmap
Provide consultation on complex projects
May lead the work of others and contribute feature work and code reviews as needed
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field
(4+) years of solutions architecture experience
(7+) years of full‑stack mobile and web application development
Experience with n‑tier application architecture and cloud‑native/cloud‑hybrid solution architecture
Experience with technical documentation: interaction diagrams, process diagrams, network topologies, and other architectural content
Experience with Agile/SAFe methodologies
Certifications
AWS Certified Solution Architect or Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Skills and Competencies
Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
Stay up-to-date on React Native developments and best practices
Understanding of design patterns to steer business requirements into enterprise‑wide technical strategies
Ability to document designs using internal and external notational standards (BPMN, UML)
Hands‑on depth of knowledge in web/mobile application languages and frameworks (iOS Native, Android Native, ReactJS/React Native preferred)
Hands‑on depth of knowledge in web/mobile CI/CD techniques using modern shift‑left methodologies
Knowledge of application security design principles and techniques
Understanding of enterprise middleware application languages and frameworks (e.g., .NET, Java, Apigee, IBM ESB, Kafka)
Working knowledge of modern Operating Systems (Linux/Windows), networking, servers/mainframe, secure coding practices, development environments (Java/.NET), databases (DB2/Oracle/SQL Server)
Understanding of public cloud (AWS, Azure) services and platforms: API Gateways, serverless, VPNs, Elastic RDBMS, NoSQL, key managers, load balancers, blob stores, indexing services, etc.
