MD Anderson Cancer Center has a Per Diem Nurse Anesthetist opportunity in our Anesthesiology department. The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center is made up of physicians, CRNAs, physician assistants and many others dedicated to providing the best anesthesia and pain medicine care for our cancer patients. Our department members are dedicated to growing a truly academic department in clinical care, research, and education. We have nearly 95 faculty and over 110 CRNAs in the department working in an anesthesia care team model. MD Anderson main location includes 37 inpatient operating rooms, 6 outpatient ORs, and 13-16 non-operating room procedural suites. There are two regional centers (Katy & Woodlands) with 6 procedural areas incorporating endoscopy, interventional radiology, and cardiopulmonary services. The total case volume is over 55,000 cases per year. We participate in a variety of specialty procedures across multiple disciplines.

Essential Job Functions

Determines that an appropriate pre-anesthesia examination has been performed by a physician, relevant tests completed, and a thorough patient assessment completed; develops a plan of care based on assessment, interpretation, anticipated procedure, and required equipment; coordinates with appropriate health care providers.

Administers anesthetic agents and adjunctive therapeutics; monitors physiological responses and takes corrective action to maintain or stabilize the patient’s condition.

Provides resuscitative care; records pertinent information on the patient’s records; terminates anesthesia; provides post-anesthesia care.

Education Required: Graduate from an approved program of nurse anesthesia education.

Licensure / Certification

Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).

Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or (APNP).

Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the Council on Certification (or Recertification) of Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).

May be required: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
