This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing startup in the aerospace/defense industry as the Sourcing Manager. In this high-impact role, you will lead innovative sourcing strategies across diverse commodities, supporting next-generation hardware and integrated systems from prototype through global production. Partnering closely with engineering, product, and business development teams, you will enable rapid program launch and scale while driving quality, performance, and cost efficiency.
This hands‑on role requires navigating complex supplier ecosystems, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with DoD, ITAR, FAR/DFARS, and cybersecurity requirements. You will help expand and strengthen the global supplier network to increase capacity and resilience, directly supporting fast‑paced, mission‑critical programs in a highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic sourcing across all commodities, developing innovative procurement strategies that support cost‑effective execution from New Product Introduction (NPI) through prototype and production scale‑up, ensuring efficient program launches and scalability.
Identify, qualify, and onboard suppliers that meet engineering, DoD, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements, while expanding the global supplier network to enhance capacity, resilience, and performance.
Own the end‑to‑end RFP process, including proposal evaluation, commercial negotiations, contract execution, award recommendations, and supplier agreements that optimize cost, quality, and delivery.
Analyze supplier performance data, conduct market research, and benchmark industry best practices to expand and strengthen the Approved Supplier List.
Monitor and manage supplier performance across quality, cost, and delivery, proactively mitigating risks and escalating issues to protect mission‑critical schedules and production commitments.
Ensure full compliance with FAR, DFARS, ITAR, NIST 800‑171, and internal policies, while supporting internal and external audits, including DCAA/DCMA reviews, supplier quality audits, and cybersecurity assessments.
Partner cross‑functionally with engineering, product, operations, and business development to align sourcing strategies with product roadmaps, demand forecasts, and revenue objectives.
Support R&D procurement and prototype builds by identifying and qualifying suppliers for specialized technologies, additive manufacturing, and advanced hardware systems.
Drive continuous improvement by standardizing sourcing processes, enhancing procedures, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and supplier engagement.
Communicate clearly and effectively with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers to ensure seamless acquisition of materials and services in fast‑paced, complex program environments.
Requirements and Desired Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain or applicable business related field.
5 or more years of progressive supply chain management and/or sourcing experience in aerospace, defense, or high‑tech hardware industries.
International sourcing experience (i.e. East or South Asia).
Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Lifecycle Change Management activities.
Hands‑on experience sourcing and procuring commodities for both domestic and international production builds.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering bills of materials (BOMs).
Proven success in supplier negotiations and cost reduction initiatives, as well as supplier performance management.
Working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, ITAR, and U.S. Government acquisition regulations.
Experience interfacing with DCAA, DCMA and/or other U.S. Gov oversight agencies preferred.
Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Experience in additive manufacturing, automation and/or advanced hardware environments a plus.
Experience with forecasting tools, procurement analytics, and market benchmarking preferred.
Experience supporting R&D procurement and prototype builds preferred.
Solid supply chain risk management and supplier contingency planning knowledge preferred.
Previous startup work environment experience is a plus.
Must be a U.S. citizen, able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Compensation (DOE):
$135k - $160k annual base salary
