HS‑EHS Classroom Support Specialist – Bilingual Spanish

Location: Easterseals Chicago – 1939 W 13th Street, Chicago, IL 60608
Salary: $19.12 – $27.42 per hour
Responsibilities
Support assigned HS/PFA and EHS/PI classrooms by providing half‑day support each day.
Assist children experiencing challenging behaviors or requiring inclusion support.
Facilitate planning time and coverage for teacher coaching.
Help implement program objectives and services in compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, and Illinois State Board of Education.
Support full inclusion of children with disabilities, suspected disabilities, or challenging behaviors.
Implement curriculum, supervise children, communicate with parents, and provide a healthy and safe environment.
Use data from child outcomes, screenings, and IFSPs/IEPs to guide lesson planning.
Document observations and interventions in Child Plus, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and child education files.
Implement active supervision to ensure child safety.
Support social‑emotional development using the pyramid model.
Prepare reports on classroom activities and attendance records.
Attend required training and meetings.
Engage in ongoing professional development.
Help maintain NAEYC and ExeleRate accreditation standards.
Maintain a clean and safe learning environment.
Support the center’s school readiness goals and implement Early Head Start/Prevention Initiative and Head Start/Preschool for All policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Education / Certification
Minimum of either Infant/Toddler or Preschool CDA Credential; must obtain both within one year if no degree.
Preferred: Associate’s degree in early childhood education, 30 college credits with 15 hours in ECE.
ECE Level 2 and/or Infant Toddler ECE Level 2 within one year of hire.
Paraprofessional license required within 6 months of hire.
Experience
1 year of early childhood classroom experience.
1 year serving culturally and linguistically diverse children.
1 year in Head Start/Early Head Start preferred.
Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) may be required or preferred.
Knowledge
Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.
Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
Head Start Performance Standards.
Illinois Early Learning Guidelines (IELGs).
Illinois Early Learning Development Standards (IELD).
Vehicle / Transportation
Valid driver’s license.
Auto insurance.
Reliable vehicle.
Skills / Abilities

Basic competency with office equipment and portable devices.
Complete at least 15 hours of continuing education per year.
