Role Description Under general supervision, the 2930 Behavioral Health Clinician performs essential duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
Assess prospective clients and their significant others/families for psychiatric services by conducting interviews, reviewing medical and psychiatric history, and advising on confidentiality and scope of services.
Develop and coordinate treatment plans, and evaluate progress to determine effectiveness of rehabilitative mental health services.
Analyze data from interviews, reports, and history to determine appropriateness of referral and recommend disposition of each case.
Compile and maintain client records, prepare documentation, statistical reports, and billing information to support treatment programs and revenue collection.
Collaborate with other service providers (e.g., nurses, primary care providers, psychologists, teachers, lawyers, physicians) to consult on medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial issues; attend staff meetings to coordinate care.
Implement comprehensive treatment plans, provide individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach services, and culturally competent interventions.
Refer clients to community resources such as mental health services, self‑help organizations, medical care, vocational rehab, and substance abuse services; actively manage caseload to maximize resource use.
Advocate for improved services by identifying client needs and providing input on treatment/program models.
Participate in quality improvement activities at local and system levels.
May supervise support staff such as Health Workers.
Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) for one of the following:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW)
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC)
Applicants must be able to demonstrate how they meet the minimum qualifications. Verification of education and experience may be required during the recruitment process.
Selection Procedures Training and Experience Examination – 100% weight.
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies governing client eligibility, confidentiality, and safety.
Decision‑making skills based on interpretation of rules and analysis of data.
Understanding of psychiatric case management principles and therapeutic techniques.
Knowledge of appropriate community resources and self‑help services.
Basic personnel policy and practice knowledge.
Self‑protection/assessment skills for safe practice.
Written and oral communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
Eligibility List Successful test takers will be placed on an eligible list with a score and rank. Candidates remain on the list for up to 12 months.
