Job Overview The Resident Care Director (RCD) serves as the nursing clinical leader for the community and is responsible for leading and managing the health and wellness of residents, coordinating care and services, ensuring regulatory compliance, recruiting, and performance management.
Managing Health and Wellness
Provide strategic leadership for resident care in the community by managing, directing, and monitoring the nursing team, promoting resident health and wellness.
Provide clinical care through direct application of the nursing process – assessments, progress notes, ISP creation, delegation of hands‑on care, and evaluation of outcomes.
Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other clinical providers to coordinate resident care.
Serve as the CLIA Director as applicable for the community.
Partner with Neighborhood Coordinators to promote an integrated approach to wellness operations and resident care.
Collaborate with Sales partners to determine community capability and assess potential residents for move‑in.
Medication Management
Provide strategic leadership for medication care by managing and monitoring medication care managers.
Oversee the community medication management program, including safety, onboarding, training, and performance reviews.
Provide clinical training and education to nurses and other care team members, performing skill evaluations to assure clinical capability.
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
Track, trend, and report clinical quality data to identify risk.
Participate actively on the community Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement committee.
Lead clinical quality and process improvement initiatives to mitigate risk and improve resident outcomes.
Recruit, hire, and train clinical team members; manage performance and staff engagement.
Ensure staffing and scheduling align with operational and budgetary guidelines.
Partner with the community leadership team to promote resident safety and compliance with risk‑management regulations.
Serve as the ICC and CLIA Director as applicable.
Lead infection control programming and ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and board regulations.
Financial Management
Manage the department budget, including labor and other expenses, and understand its impact on the community’s bottom line.
Process and submit monthly expenses and budget data on time.
Understand internal costs associated with all Sunrise resident care programs.
Training, Leadership and Team Member Development
Partner with leadership to deliver and participate in Sunrise University training programs.
On‑board new RCD leaders and other department coordinators.
Develop knowledge of state/provincial regulations and ensure compliance through coaching.
Perform staffing and scheduling according to guidelines.
Hold clinical team accountable, correct actions, and document required.
Attend leadership and quality meetings as directed.
Stay abreast of professional developments via conferences and training.
Maintain compliance with required training and state/provincial regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Competencies
Ability to delegate assignments appropriately and in compliance with regulations.
Organize efficiently, handle multiple priorities, and manage time effectively.
Demonstrate critical thinking, clinical judgment, and decision‑making skills.
Experience and Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited college or school of nursing.
Current state/provincial license as a professional Registered Nurse (RN).
Minimum two (2) years RN experience, with at least one (1) year preferred in home health, assisted living, or long‑term care.
Minimum one (1) year nursing management experience (hiring, coaching, performance management, scheduling, daily operations).
Certified in CPR and First Aid.
Knowledge of applied nursing practices in accordance with federal, state/provincial, and board requirements.
Knowledge of infection control practices and disease prevention.
Experience in tracking, trending, and analyzing clinical performance data.
Experience in quality and clinical process improvement and risk assessment.
Experience in staff development, training, and/or clinical education.
Computer proficiency with EMR and Microsoft Office; ability to learn new applications.
Ability to work weekends, evenings, and flexible hours, including 24/7 on‑call responsibility.
