Boise State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (VP-CFO). Boise State, Idaho’s largest state‑supported university, is positioned for transformational growth. The University has recently achieved R2 classification and has expanded its research portfolio by 43% over the past five years. Enrollment reached a record 28,500 students in fall 2025.
The VP‑CFO reports directly to the President and serves as a key member of the President’s Executive Team, providing strategic financial leadership for all aspects of the University’s fiscal operations. The role partners closely with the Administrative Council and collaborates with external stakeholders such as the Idaho State Board of Education, the Idaho Division of Financial Management, and the Legislative Finance Committee.
The chief financial strategist and steward leads a comprehensive portfolio that includes University Financial Services, the Office of Budget and Planning, the Office of Information Technology (OIT), and the Next Frontier program, overseeing a team of 85+ professionals and aligning financial strategy with the University’s Blueprint for Success.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic financial leadership for all fiscal operations.
Partner with the Administrative Council to align strategy across campus.
Collaborate with external stakeholders including state boards and committees.
Lead University Financial Services, Budget and Planning, OIT, and Next Frontier programs.
Drive innovation and operational excellence in support of the University’s strategic plan.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, public administration, or a related field (required).
At least five years of recent experience in public higher education or a related field.
Preferred: Master’s degree and 10 years of fiscal management experience, with at least five years in an executive role such as CFO, vice president, or associate vice president.
Strong leadership, collaboration, analytical, financial, and communication skills.
Forward‑thinking, enthusiastic, and entrepreneurial mindset.
