Target January
About the Role
A leading diagnostics organization is seeking a hands‑on
Scientist
to join its Pathology Biology and Integrated Analytics group in Pleasanton, CA. This is an
R&D‑focused laboratory role
supporting monoclonal antibody development for in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and companion diagnostics (CDx).
The ideal candidate will have
recent, bench‑based experience
across molecular cloning, mammalian expression, antibody purification, and characterization. This role is execution‑heavy and suited for scientists who prefer active laboratory work over documentation‑heavy development environments.
Key Responsibilities
Perform
molecular cloning
to generate antibody constructs for mammalian expression, including PCR‑based cloning and construct preparation.
Support
monoclonal antibody development workflows , from cloning and expression through purification and characterization.
Execute
transient antibody expression
in mammalian cell culture systems (e.g., HEK, CHO).
Perform
antibody purification
using affinity‑based approaches (Protein A/G); FPLC experience is helpful but not required.
Conduct
antibody characterization and functional testing , including ELISA, SDS‑PAGE, Western blotting, HPLC/SEC, and immunoassays.
Analyze experimental data independently, summarize findings, and present results to project teams.
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional R&D teams across biology, analytics, and assay development.
Contribute to multiple small‑to‑medium R&D projects, troubleshooting technical issues and adjusting priorities as needed.
Required Qualifications
Hands‑on experience in
molecular cloning , including PCR and subcloning into mammalian expression vectors.
Practical experience supporting
antibody or protein expression
in mammalian systems.
Experience with
antibody purification and downstream characterization
techniques.
Strong bench experience with
antibody characterization assays
(ELISA, WB, SDS-PAGE, HPLC/SEC).
Ability to independently interpret experimental results and communicate findings clearly.
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Life Sciences or related field, with
experience prioritized over degree level .
Experience Guidelines
PhD with approximately
5+ years of hands‑on laboratory experience , or
Master’s with
5–10+ years of hands‑on laboratory experience , or
Bachelor’s with substantial, relevant bench experience in antibody or protein‑based research.
Academic, industry, and CRO backgrounds are acceptable, provided the experience is
hands‑on and execution‑focused .
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have
Antibody engineering or optimization experience.
Exposure to different antibody formats, including bispecifics or nanobodies.
Familiarity with structural biology tools or protein modeling concepts.
Experience with laboratory automation or workflow optimization.
Experience with biophysical characterization techniques (e.g., DLS, DSC).
Background in immunology, oncology, or protein chemistry.
Additional Notes
This role is research‑focused and
not documentation‑heavy .
Downstream purification platforms can be trained for the right candidate.
Work primarily involves biological materials with minimal hazardous chemical exposure.
Interview process includes a virtual screen followed by a panel interview.
Target decision by late December.
