Pay Range Base pay: $37,336.00 / yr – $62,046.40 / yr. Actual pay will be based on experience and skills.
Responsibilities
Provide protective services for patients, families, staff, and property.
Respond to emergency situations and enforce hospital policies and District of Columbia law.
Maintain a courteous demeanor while exercising duties.
Perform access control using state‑of‑the‑art technology.
Conduct security patrols across the campus to proactively identify risks.
Work closely with medical professionals to advance patient safety.
Functional Accountabilities
Safety
Perform patrols; recognize and mitigate safety violations.
Notify supervisors of security/safety-related problems.
Take proactive measures to reduce thefts, disturbances, and other incidents.
Verify that visitors and staff are wearing proper identification badges.
Emergency Response
Ensure timely and appropriate response to emergencies.
Follow applicable policies, procedures, and directives specific to each situation.
De‑escalate disruptive behavior and maintain control of emotions.
Safety Communication
Speak up when unsafe behavior or performance is observed.
Validate and verify information needed for decision making.
Demonstrate clear and timely verbal and written communication.
Promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and co‑workers.
Teamwork & Customer Service
Demonstrate collaborative and respectful behavior.
Respond to customer needs and follow up until needs are met.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (required).
Minimum 2 years work experience as a Special Police Officer (preferred).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Physical ability to sit, stand for prolonged periods, climb stairs during emergencies, wear body armor, and work outdoors if necessary.
Ability to handle volatile situations under stressful conditions.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Excellent customer service skills.
Knowledge of Washington D.C. criminal code.
Experience as an emergency responder (law enforcement, fire/rescue, military).
Knowledge of HIPAA rules and restrictions.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Special Police Officer commission from Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department.
Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – required.
Work Information Primary Location: Washington, D.C. – Children’s National Hospital (Main Campus)
