Position Summary The Senior Manager, Software Engineering leads platform‑level execution of distributed post‑purchase and fulfillment systems, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and roadmap milestones. This role oversees infrastructure, tooling, and frameworks that support scalable, secure development across order management, fulfillment, substitutions, and customer experience flows. The manager champions DevOps practices, cloud cost optimization, and technical excellence to deliver high‑availability, customer‑facing post‑checkout systems. Collaborating across engineering, product, data, and operations teams, the manager guides architectural decisions, mentors engineers, and manages complex initiatives to improve order reliability, transparency, and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Do

Lead platform‑level execution of post‑purchase systems, including order management, fulfillment orchestration, delivery tracking, substitutions, cancellations, and returns.

Oversee shared infrastructure, tooling, and frameworks supporting high‑scale, event‑driven post‑checkout workflows and seamless integration across order management systems, fulfillment, logistics, and customer experience platforms.

Drive the full software development lifecycle across teams, championing DevOps, CI/CD, observability, reliability engineering, and cloud cost optimization for customer‑facing and operational systems.

Collaborate with product, data, and operations teams to design and deliver resilient post‑purchase experiences serving millions of customers with strict SLAs.

Guide architectural decisions to ensure order state consistency, idempotency, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation across distributed systems.

Mentor engineers and engineering managers, raising the bar on technical quality, operational readiness, and launch excellence.

Manage stakeholder relationships across business, operations, and engineering; track milestones and dependencies to align post‑purchase initiatives with business goals.

Foster continuous improvement through automation, incident reduction, MTTD/MTTR improvements, and operational excellence in fulfillment and delivery flows.

What You’ll Bring

Extensive experience leading platform engineering teams delivering post‑purchase, fulfillment, or logistics systems at scale.

Proven ability to drive architectural decisions for distributed order lifecycle systems, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and high availability.

Strong expertise in DevOps, CI/CD, observability, incident management, and cloud cost optimization for high‑traffic customer‑facing platforms.

Demonstrated success aligning post‑purchase technical initiatives (order reliability, transparency, fulfillment efficiency) with business outcomes.

Deep understanding of order state machines, asynchronous workflows, event‑driven architectures, and integration patterns across commerce ecosystems.

Skilled at mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of operational excellence, customer obsession, and continuous improvement.

Strong program and stakeholder management capabilities, including cross‑team dependency management across engineering, product, and operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

2 years’ supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Knowledge of creating inclusive digital experiences, implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Knowledge of accessibility best practices and experience developing products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines.
