American National is seeking a Director & Actuary for our downtown Houston, TX or Des Moines, IA locations! Reporting to the SVP of Pricing, the Director & Actuary will contribute to the development of scalable pricing frameworks and assumption methodologies that support long-term growth and profitability.
You’ll be responsible for enhancing rate setting and reinsurance pricing, particularly for flow annuity products, while helping shape pricing execution across the organization. This role offers strong visibility and the opportunity to influence key actuarial decisions in a dynamic, growth‑oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and communicate complex actuarial analyses related to annuity pricing and modeling.
Lead rate setting and reinsurance pricing for flow annuity products, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
Support ad hoc pricing for M&A and strategic growth initiatives.
Prepare and present actuarial exhibits and summaries to senior leadership, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators.
Ensure documentation and execution of actuarial analyses align with the SOA Code of Professional Conduct and Actuarial Standards of Practice.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior actuarial staff.
Utilize GGY AXIS for modeling; experience with the platform is considered an asset.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong quantitative foundation.
Fellowship designation (FSA or equivalent); relevant experience may be considered in lieu of fellowship.
Demonstrated proficiency in applying actuarial principles and standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience in rate setting and reinsurance pricing for annuity products.
Familiarity with GGY AXIS modeling software.
Experience with retail annuity and PRT products in the US, UK, and APAC regions is considered an asset.
