About the Position The Guardian ad Litem Paralegal Specialist provides secretarial, administrative, and clerical support to Attorneys in the 19th Circuit GAL Office. The role receives general supervision from the Managing Attorney or Circuit Director and handles sensitive, confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

Cite check, proofread, and finalize legal briefs under supervision.

Maintain case files, court calendars, and litigation timetables.

Prepare case summaries, pleadings, orders, and summonses under attorney supervision.

Draft and file pleadings and motions for attorneys.

Establish working relationships with State Courts personnel, private attorneys, law firms, outside organizations, and the public.

Gather and analyze research data.

Qualifications

Completion of a training program to become a legal assistant, paralegal, legal paraprofessional, or lawyer’s/attorney’s assistant; or

A degree or certificate in legal technology, legal administration, legal studies, or allied legal services; or

Graduation from a law school; or

Executive Director or designee may waive the required training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of legal citation (Bluebook) and legal terminology.

Knowledge of law and legal procedure, grammar, spelling, and writing mechanics.

Ability to perform legal writing and research legal documents.

Ability to comprehend and interpret information.

Ability to maintain files and plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

Effective communication skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships.
