Job Title: Dance Activity Head (AH)

About Camp Wicosuta Camp Wicosuta is a traditional sleepaway camp for girls in Hebron, New Hampshire. Each summer we run two distinct camp sessions, each hosting approximately 300 campers and 170 staff members. At Camp Wicosuta, our 3 Cs philosophy (confidence, competence, and community) is part of everything we do! We offer activities in the areas of athletics, aquatics (pool and waterfront), creative arts, performing arts, environment education, and more. Our staff members can be role models for children, spend the summer outdoors, enjoy fun activities and build great friendships.
Position The Dance Activity Heads (AH) at Camp Wicosuta is a member of the Leadership Team and holds the responsibility of directly supervising the dance staff (5-10 dance and fitness instructors). The AH is responsible for all aspects of their specific program, including but not limited to curriculum development, staff scheduling, and department maintenance. Our activity programs include visual arts, performing arts, athletics, aquatics, environmental education, and more. The AH works with and coaches campers between the ages of 7 and 15 with varying levels of abilities and skills. The AH ensures that activities are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper’s age and abilities. The AH manages all of the facilities/equipment related to their program area.
Leadership Team Role As a member of the leadership team, each AH is not only a leader within their program area but also around the entire camp community.
Responsibilities
Deliver an engaging activity program to campers
Plan and implement lessons relating to specific field
Direct the set up and maintenance of the activity area
Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair
Clean area daily keeping it free of hazards and debris
Train staff in the specific activity area during orientation and throughout the summer
Each activity area has a designated staff ranging in size from 3-20 staff members ranging in age from 19 to 22
Supervise staff instruction during activity periods
Organize and create staff schedules
Provide formal performance reviews of performing arts counselors
Implement and enforce Camp Wicosuta rules and safety procedures
Serve as member of the Leadership Team – playing an integral role in our community outside of the performing arts program
Assist setting up and leading evening activities and special events
Lead off camp trips – supervising counselors and campers when needed
Evening On-Duty Rotation (9:30pm-12:30am)
Present and participate at all camp meals and camp events
Other Job Duties
Be familiar with and support the successful execution of all camp policies and procedures, including safety and emergency plans
Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
Participate as a member of the Camp Wicosuta Leadership Team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
Assist in the planning of any special events in on site dance studio.
Qualifications (Minimum qualifications and experience)
Currently pursuing a master’s degree or equivalent professional experience required
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and strong work ethic
Ability to work collaboratively
Desire and ability to work with children with a focus in performing arts
Additional Notes This is a temporary, seasonal position. All leadership team members are expected to live on camp for the duration of the summer program, including orientation and both summer sessions (June 6- August 16). Salary is competitive and all room and board is included.
