Job Description Job Description Job Summary: The Dairy Refrigeration Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration systems used in dairy processing and storage facilities. This role ensures that milk and dairy products are kept at optimal temperatures to meet safety, quality, and production standards. The technician also troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues, performs preventive maintenance, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration and cooling systems including compressors, condensers, evaporators, chillers, and ice builders. Monitor and adjust refrigeration controls to maintain proper temperatures for milk storage tanks, pasteurizers, and production areas. Perform preventive maintenance schedules on all refrigeration and HVAC equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions and perform necessary repairs. Maintain ammonia and/or freon-based systems according to safety and environmental regulations. Keep accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and refrigerant usage. Work with other maintenance and production staff to minimize downtime and maintain product quality. Ensure all work complies with OSHA, EPA, and food safety (e.g., FDA, HACCP) standards. Respond to emergency calls for refrigeration system failures during off-hours if required. Qualifications and Skills: Technical diploma, certification, or degree in Refrigeration, HVAC, or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 2-5 years of experience with industrial refrigeration systems (preferably in dairy or food processing). Knowledge of ammonia and freon-based systems (IIAR certification or similar preferred). Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Good communication skills and teamwork attitude. Ability to work in cold environments and lift up to 50 lbs. EPA 608 certification required (for handling refrigerants). Preferred Qualifications: Experience with dairy processing equipment (milk pasteurizers, CIP systems, etc.) PLC or automation experience. Boiler operation and maintenance knowledge.
