Associate General Counsel - Energy
Meta seeks an experienced attorney to join our Energy team as Associate General Counsel. This full‑time position is based in San Francisco and reports to the Director & Associate General Counsel, Real Estate. You’ll work closely with Meta’s Energy Team, distributed across the United States, and play a crucial role in securing energy for our data centers and advancing our net‑zero commitments.
Base pay range $198,000.00/yr – $266,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Collaborate with Meta’s Energy Team to secure essential infrastructure by drafting and negotiating agreements with utilities, generators, and transmission operators.
Support the procurement of clean and renewable energy for Meta’s data centers, working with utilities, co‑ops, and other suppliers across varied geographies.
Provide in‑house legal support for Meta’s monitoring and participation in utility regulatory proceedings, including rate cases, rulemakings, and resource planning.
Assist the CaRE (Clean & Renewable Energy) Team with clean‑energy procurement, including negotiating PPAs, sleeved PPAs, environmental attribute purchase agreements, and energy‑storage agreements.
Support the Energy Strategy Team on transactions that promote new clean‑energy and carbon‑reduction technologies.
Help the Energy Contract Management Team manage daily needs of clean‑energy and carbon‑credit agreements.
Identify issues and seek guidance from subject‑matter experts (regulatory, risk, finance, tax, etc.).
Hire, closely manage and direct outside counsel.
Minimum Qualifications
J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent).
8+ years of experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating energy or carbon transactions.
Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar and eligibility to obtain in‑house counsel registration.
Demonstrated drafting and negotiating skills.
Solid business judgment and strategic thinking experience.
Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and collegiality.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with a broad range of energy and carbon transactions, including sleeved green‑energy arrangements, industrial tariffs, PPAs, environmental attribute purchases, sleeved PPAs, and power‑storage agreements.
Experience monitoring or participating in ratemaking and resource‑planning proceedings before public utilities commissions.
Experience working at or with a technology company.
Familiarity with various regulatory regimes affecting energy and commodities transactions.
