Definition Acts as the head of the medical department at one of the smaller County hospitals or medically-related programs for the Department of Health Services.
Essential Job Functions
Establish annual goals, objectives, strategies, and recommends improvement activities.
Ensure and collaborate to lead the development of a coherent and integrated medical program strategy, integrating progressive, developmental, diverse and dynamic goals with evolving healthcare and operational needs.
Work closely with DHS executives, patient care providers and program staff to translate clinician requirements into specifications for new clinical technology systems.
Coordinate professional services of the comprehensive health center within and with other divisions of DHS, agency departments, other County departments, and outside agencies.
Perform administrative duties such as preparing budgets, determining equipment and supply needs, personnel-related issues, and developing and revising work procedures concerning workload and levels of service.
Set the standards of professional conduct for the medical staff under supervision within the comprehensive health center.
Provide professional medical services as necessary.
Disseminate medical information to the press and other media.
Direct, formulate, develop, and execute medical plans and medical-related policies and programs.
Maintain relationships with hospital, professional groups and cooperating medical schools regarding standards of medical training and service.
Resolve problems relating to patient complaints.
Ensure compliance with all departmental / ambulatory care network policies and all local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Integrate evidence-based medicine concepts into all aspects of the program.
Develop and ensure technology and functionality of program systems will meet progressive and developmental goals of future clinical care throughout the healthcare system.
Requirements
Certification by an American Specialty Board* and two (2) years of medical administrative** experience.
Additional points will be awarded for experience in excess of the Selection Requirements.
California State Physician's and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out essential functions.
Physical Class II: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
In order to meet the Selection Requirements, submit a legible copy of the Certification by an American Specialty Board with the application at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days of filing online.
Medical administrative in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: planning, organizing, developing, staffing, and controlling of a health facility, clinic, unit, ward or program.
Attach a legible photocopy of the valid California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California within seven (7) calendar days from filing online.
Examination Content and Eligibility The examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information, weighted 100%. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher to be added to the eligible register.
Applications will be processed on an "as received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be placed on the eligible register for a period of twelve (12) months. No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evening, nights, weekends, and holidays. Available shift: Any.
