Job Summary The Data Strategy Senior Director plays a pivotal role in shaping an organization’s approach to data management and utilization. This leadership position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive data strategies that drive business decisions, enhance operational efficiency, and foster innovation. By collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Senior Director, Data Strategy ensures that data governance, analytics, and reporting frameworks are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. The Director oversees the entire lifecycle of data within the organization, from collection and storage to analysis and reporting, works closely with IT and Business Groups to design robust data governance processes and data architectures that support scalable growth and adaptability, and identifies opportunities to leverage data for improving business processes and enhancing customer experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive data strategies aligned with organizational goals and promote accessibility and comprehensibility of data across all levels.

Oversee data governance initiatives to simplify access and ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance while harnessing robust data integration strategies.

Collaborate with IT and business units to optimize data architecture and infrastructure, providing unified views by consolidating diverse data sources.

Identify opportunities to leverage data for improving business processes and customer experience, partnering with Business Groups to use predictive analytics.

Stay current with industry trends and emerging data management technologies, ensuring scalability of data capabilities.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data governance, analytics, and reporting frameworks with strategic objectives.

Establish and lead data stewardship programs, ensuring clear ownership, accountability, and adoption of governance practices.

Provide leadership and mentorship to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and communicate strategies and insights to stakeholders at all levels.

Work closely with other agencies to share best practices and, where possible, align strategies and technologies.

Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Available to work as directed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any circumstances impacting service or safety.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.

Ten (10) years of experience in data management, analytics, or a related field.

Seven (7) years of supervisory, managerial, and/or leadership experience.

Strong understanding of data governance, data architecture, and analytics tools and technologies.

Proven track record of developing and executing successful data strategies.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.

Experience managing cross-functional teams and projects.

Demonstrated history of high achievement in data strategy and management.

Results-driven approach to leading multiple complex projects to timely success with minimal supervision.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; interaction with all internal staff levels encouraged.

Intellectual curiosity to stay current with industry trends in data management technologies such as data lakes, data warehouses, and governance tools.

Demonstrated ability to implement creative ways to engage and communicate with various audiences.

Preferred Experience

Worked on complex technology agreements and projects.

Ability to motivate and guide teams through complex issues as an inspirational leader.

Strong ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

Understanding of the big picture and translating business goals into actionable transformation plans.

Excellent attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

Substitutions Include

A high school diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience.

An associate’s degree with an additional three (3) years of directly related experience.

A master’s degree in a related subject substituting for two (2) years of general experience.

A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification substituting for one (1) year of experience.

Job Conditions

Ability to effectively read, comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, except when participating in an approved high school internship/co‑op program.

Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area.

Ability to provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experiences.

Ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a diverse workforce team.

Ability to uphold MBTA rights and interests while building effective relationships with employees and coworkers.

Ability to adhere to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and MBTA policies including EEO, anti‑discrimination, anti‑harassment, and anti‑retaliation policies.

Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting (unless current student or recent graduate).

Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and / or medical clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.

Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary, including up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week as necessary for severe weather conditions, emergencies, or other circumstances impacting service or safety.

Intern/co‑op staff must be enrolled full or part‑time in an accredited educational program, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the duration, and have valid work authorization and a U.S. Social Security Number before starting pre‑employment screening/boarding.
