SUPERVISING MENTAL HEALTH PSYCHIATRIST County of Los Angeles seeks a SUPERVISING MENTAL HEALTH PSYCHIATRIST to provide clinical leadership and administrative oversight of mental health services within the County Department of Health Services.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision to psychiatrists, multidisciplinary staff and ancillary staff in the delivery of mental health services.

Perform administrative tasks, including budget preparation, equipment and supply planning, personnel management, and development of work procedures.

Lead the planning, assignment, direction, and coordination of multidisciplinary staff for mental health treatment and psychiatric services.

Develop policies, procedures and plans and guide medical work of the section or assist a division of a medical department.

Evaluate program activities, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement changes.

Conduct psychiatric evaluations, determine probable cause for treatment and initiate detention under WIC 5150 when appropriate.

Prescribe medication and monitor overall effect; may administer medication as needed.

Participate in quality improvement processes and corrective action planning.

Teach and mentor interns and residents in a training program.

Review and evaluate health‑care staff performance and make recommendations.

Coordinate consulting physicians and maintain accurate records and comprehensive reports.

Qualifications

Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in psychiatry or equivalent training.

Minimum one (1) year of experience in medical practice, post‑residency training, teaching, or investigative work.

California State Physician and Surgeons Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of California.

Valid California Class C Driver’s License or alternative transportation method.

Physical ability: light effort, occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds, some bending or stooping.
