Our Client is a successful distribution company, looking for a

Controller

to join their team. The primary responsibility of this role will be to smoothly transition the company to accrual accounting, implement systems, and build out a strong financial structure that will support the continued growth of the organization.

This role will be based on-site in Brooklyn, NY, report to the COO, and plays a crucial role for the continued success of the company!

What you will do : Manage the full accounting cycle, and maintaining data integrity Transition of the company from cash-basis to accrual-basis accounting Lead the AR and AP functions Prepare timely and accurate P&Ls, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to provide financial insight to leadership on the health of the business Establish internal controls around cash handling, approvals, and reconciliations to reduce the risk of error or fraud Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, and reporting requirements Oversee payroll to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness, protecting both employee trust and company integrity Partner with the COO and ownership on budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to support growth while maintaining profitability Provide purchasing support, recognizing that the companys largest expense is inventory and profitability is often determined at the point of purchase Provide company owners with reporting and analysis specific to product sourcing and vendor management Execute some high trust/high touch functions of purchasing on an as needed basis Play an active role in shaping a more structured, professionalized finance function while maintaining the companys entrepreneurial spirit

What you need to Succeed : Minimum of 10 years accounting/finance experience, which includes GAAP and accrual accounting. Minimum of 3 years leadership experience Proven record of building and implementing accounting and finance procedures Experience with inventory, distribution, import/export, or wholesale a strong plus. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to earn trust across a family-owned business environment.
