Job Description In collaboration with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, the Medical Dosimetrist applies critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to design, generate, and evaluate radiation treatment plans using advanced computer software and manual calculations. These plans are developed based on the prescribed dose, target volumes, and dose constraints for surrounding structures, integrating various imaging modalities to ensure accurate delineation of target and critical structures. The dosimetrist also contributes to quality assurance processes, supports accurate treatment delivery, and adheres to professional, ethical, and compliance standards established by New York Oncology Hematology (NYOH) and the broader medical dosimetry profession.

Design and optimize radiation therapy treatment plans using advanced treatment planning software.

Utilize various imaging modalities (CT, MRI, PET) for accurate identification and delineation of target structures and critical anatomy.

Planning modalities: Electrons, 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT/SRS, HDR.

Use systems and software such as Eclipse, Aria, Adaptiiv, Radformation products, among others.

Calculate and evaluate dose distributions and dose‑volume histograms for treatment plans.

Perform patient‑specific quality assurance tasks under the guidance of a medical physicist.

Collaborate with the treatment team on immobilization devices, custom shielding, bolus, and other beam‑modifying devices.

Consult with physicians and therapists to communicate treatment plan details, offer alternative planning solutions, and ensure proper implementation of treatment parameters.

Perform image fusions as ordered by the physician.

Document treatment planning processes and quality assurance activities accurately and in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Transfer treatment plans and setup instructions into the record‑and‑verify system, verifying accuracy post‑transfer.

Participate in adaptive radiation therapy by modifying plans as necessary.

Assist with brachytherapy procedures, including planning and dose calculations, under the direction of a medical physicist and within credentialing guidelines.

Perform periodic QA checks on treatment planning systems, imaging systems, and other equipment.

Ensure accurate coding and documentation of dosimetry procedures for billing compliance.

Perform general computer tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet management, organizing files, and backing up data.

Stay current with advancements in technology, techniques, and best practices through continuing education.

Provide education and mentorship to medical dosimetry students, residents, and other trainees.
