Automation Engineer – Job Description The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automated workflows and solutions within the Microsoft 365 environment. This role leverages Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 tools to streamline business processes, improve data visibility, and enhance collaboration. The engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, translate them into technical solutions, and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting.

Additional responsibilities include the development of data tracking systems to monitor project and organizational impact, including tracking funding, overtime, leave, and new requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement automated workflows using Power Automate to streamline repetitive tasks such as approvals, reminders, report generation, and notifications.

Automate specific processes such as overtime requests and time‑off requests.

Integrate Microsoft 365 tools (SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, Power BI, etc.) to create seamless information flows and collaborative solutions.

Design, develop, and maintain SharePoint sites, lists, and libraries to support business processes.

Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI to visualize data and provide actionable insights.

Maintain and troubleshoot existing automation scripts and flows, ensuring stability and optimal performance.

Collaborate with project leads to gather and document business requirements for new automation projects and enhancements.

Translate business requirements into technical designs, ensuring scalability and maintainability.

Test developed solutions thoroughly and create comprehensive documentation for end‑users and support personnel.

Track funding and impacts based on project schedule, overtime, leave, and new requirements, and report on this data.

Stay up to date with the latest Microsoft 365 features, updates, and best practices.

Provide training and support to end‑users on new and existing Microsoft 365 solutions.

Required Experience & Skills

1‑3 years of experience as a developer, preferably within a Microsoft 365 environment.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a STEM field.

Strong understanding of the Microsoft 365 platform and its capabilities.

Preferred Technical Skills

Expert knowledge of Power Automate connectors, actions, triggers, and expressions.

Experience designing, developing, and administering SharePoint sites, lists, libraries, and workflows.

Ability to create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.

Familiarity with Microsoft Graph API for accessing and manipulating data.

Experience developing and customizing Power Apps (Canvas and/or Model‑driven).

Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automating Microsoft 365 tasks.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Location & Travel Work Location: San Diego, CA – requires a Secret US DoD security clearance. Travel required: 10%.

Compensation $41 – $53 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation can vary based on location, responsibilities, skill set, and level of experience.
