The Team We are the Global Design IT software engineering team within the Vehicle Engineering & Quality IT (VEQ IT) organization at GM. Our team supports the design development of every GM production and concept vehicle, and we are on the forefront of developing transformative business processes that accelerate the design of future vehicles.

We are seeking an outstanding and seasoned software engineer passionate about developing and delivering resilient, hands‑off AI and cloud‑supported IT solutions. This role collaborates with a skilled team of software engineers proficient in full‑stack web and desktop development, alongside system analysts specializing in requirements development, analysis, and failure‑mode analysis.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

Write code that meets nonfunctional requirements (security, maintainability, performance, scalability, functional safety, efficiency, deployability) and ensures software quality by integrating testing early in development.

Collaborate with IT and business partner organizations to develop the validated set of IT program requirements.

Execute on tasks with a strong level of autonomy, demonstrating independent ability to investigate and solve problems, formulate and execute novel approaches to problem solving and feature development.

Lead the development of a resilient IT architecture enabling cloud‑supported code deployment with hands‑off operations.

Drive modern IT development processes within the Persistent Team, enabling daily builds of a fully observable application supporting global distributed operations.

Suggest features that enhance business productivity.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent work experience considered in lieu of a degree.

5+ years of experience in web and desktop applications.

5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture definition, documentation, and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, observability, automated testing, daily builds, and scaling).

Expertise in one or more technologies focused on transforming to AI/ML: Python, Java, C#, .NET, including front‑end technologies like Angular and React UI.

Experience with Cloud Platforms (Azure, AWS/GCP), Docker, Kubernetes, Databricks, Kafka, Quarkus, PostgreSQL, FastAPI.

Experience with distributed systems.

Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and tests.

Experience working in an environment with leveraged horizontal teams in IT.

Experience collaborating with program management teams.

Enthusiastic about the opportunity of impacting the Design business and culture from the bottom up.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

C, C++, TeamCenter knowledge, familiarity with CAD tools and 3D math data.

Experience in Jira and GitHub.
