Overview The Accounting Manager provides consistent leadership in the hotel’s financial area, guiding management and staff to maintain profitability, accurate financial reporting, and strong internal controls while ensuring regulatory compliance and safeguarding owner assets.

Responsibilities

Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues, preparing monthly financial statements and ensuring timely deposits of all funds.

Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording and controlling cash flow and operating forecasts.

Create annual budgets and monthly variance analyses, investigating variances and offering practical improvement methodologies.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and operational taxes.

Analyze financial data and operations to advise management on maintaining the hotel’s financial objectives.

Comply with Standard Accounting policies and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.

Perform timely reviews and approvals of balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.

Audit internal financial controls—purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records.

Coordinate internal and external audits, delivering requested information to CPA firms promptly.

Hire, train, supervise, and develop staff, providing coaching, counseling, and discipline as needed.

Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels’ standards and regulations for safe and efficient operations.

Prepare all financial reports per Highgate Hotels’ requirements, meeting due dates.

Report responsibilities: Weekly (A/R & A/P Aging, Flash Reports, Payroll Reports, Revenue Updates); Monthly (Financial Statements, Forecasting Key Statistics Report, Cash Flow); Annual (Budgets, 5‑Year Plans, 5‑Year Capital Plans).

Interact promptly with Executive Committee members to ensure operations remain on track.

Monitor compliance with reporting deadlines and daily operating report production.

Execute other special projects and assignments as assigned.

Qualifications

At least 4 years of progressive experience in hotel accounting or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree with Accounting/Finance concentration and a minimum of 2 years of progressive experience; or an associate’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of progressive experience.

Proficient in Windows, spreadsheet and word processing software, and all hotel‑specific systems.

Warm, friendly demeanor at all times.

Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees and guests, courteous and service‑oriented.

Excellent listening skills to understand and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.

Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.

Attends all required meetings and trainings.

Participates in M.O.D. coverage as required.

Maintains regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards and scheduling.

Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.

Encourages safe and efficient hotel operations through compliance with company standards and regulations.

Maximizes productivity and identifies problem areas, implementing solutions.

Effectively handles problems—anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving them as necessary.

Analyzes complex information from various sources to meet objectives.

Maintains confidentiality of information.

Performs other duties as requested by management.
