ACCOUNT CLERK SPECIALIST
The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for the position of Account Clerk Specialist. Initial interviews will be conducted the week of January 19, 2026. The department will contact candidates invited to interview.
Duties
Compile and record financial transactions.
Code costs to proper distribution according to predetermined functional and organizational classifications.
Explain financial and assessment procedures and accounting requirements to employees and the public.
Audit budgetary classification of expenditure documents.
Assist in the preparation of periodic reports.
Prepare and maintain redemption tax records.
Gather statistical data and prepare worksheets for budget estimates.
Prepare the pre‑audit report of public funds for payment and warrant preparation.
Audit and distribute receipts and revenues to proper accounts.
Review and process claims and invoices from contractors, suppliers, and/or service providers for payment.
Maintain accounts receivable subsidiary ledgers.
Utilize data processing printouts and personal computers to perform clerical accounting duties.
Track and reconcile fixed asset and minor equipment inventory.
Hiring Timeline
Job offer and background process begins shortly after interview.
Pre‑employment medical screening approximately three days following successful background investigation results.
Anticipated start date based on successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed date.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years as an Account Clerk within the County of San Diego; OR
Three (3) years or more of work experience performing responsible clerical accounting work, bookkeeping, fiscal, or statistical assignments; OR
Completion of twelve (12) semester units from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting; AND one (1) year of experience performing responsible clerical accounting work, bookkeeping, fiscal or statistical assignments.
Condition of Employment Prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional background investigations may be conducted based on the job‑related activities. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Evaluation Qualified applicants will be placed on a nine (9) month employment list based on scores from an automated evaluation system. Successful applicants will be reviewed individually. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application materials.
