Departmental Overview The Helen Diller Institute for Jewish Law and Israel Studies (formerly the Berkeley Institute for Jewish Law and Israel Studies) serves undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty through research, programming, visiting scholars, colloquia, and classes. The Institute’s two core programs—Program on Israel Studies and Program on Jewish Law, Thought, and Identity—focus on educating, engaging, and empowering students, fostering the next generation of student leaders.

Position Summary The Student Programs Associate is responsible for building relationships with students and promoting student‑centered programs. Duties include aiding the Undergraduate Fellows Program, recruiting for the summer Global Internship Program in Israel, developing outreach strategies, and facilitating mentorship and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

Develop student outreach strategies and implement them through grassroots meetings, campus events, and networking initiatives.

Build and maintain relationships with campus partners such as Berkeley Hillel, Center for Jewish Studies, and The Magnes.

Recruit students to the Undergraduate Fellows Program, Israel Studies minor, and the summer Global Internship Program in Haifa, Israel.

Plan and execute events, workshops, and DeCal proposals for student programming.

Mentor Undergraduate Fellows individually and in group settings.

Prepare written and visual materials for institute programs.

Match student fellows with alumni and community mentors.

Conduct alumni outreach and networking to expand the alumni community.

Participate in professional development and training opportunities.

Supports The Institute's Undergraduate Fellows Program By

Working closely with student fellows to plan events

Creating robust student programming

Developing DeCal proposals

Implementing professional development workshops for the fellows

Professional Development & Other Duties As Assigned

Participate in professional development and training opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of basic concepts for building effective relationships with alumni and key constituencies.

Basic knowledge of the Helen Diller Institute’s mission, vision, and policies.

Organizational skills, event planning experience, and ability to prioritize work.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Analytical and critical thinking skills.

Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, video‑conferencing platforms.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a high level of responsiveness.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience handling sensitive information with confidentiality.

Familiarity with student outreach and engagement programs.

Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.

Ability to work occasional evenings for programs and meetings.

Minimum a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with UC policies, practices, and systems.

Experience with social media tools and outreach strategy development.

Salary & Benefits Hourly range: $32.83 – $37.75. Non‑exempt, biweekly paid. For additional benefits information, visit the University of California Compensation & Benefits website.
