The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the school’s executive leadership team and is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of all financial functions. This role oversees the Accounting Office, ensuring accurate financial reporting, sound fiscal management, and regulatory compliance. The CFO partners closely with the Head of School, Board of Trustees/Finance Committee, and administrative leaders to support the school’s mission and long-term financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic financial guidance to support BA’s academic and operational priorities.

Direct and supervise the accounting office, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and student billing.

Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and investment administration.

Work with Admission, Financial Aid, and Development to ensure accurate accounting for tuition, scholarships, and donations.

Contribute to campus operations planning, capital projects, and IT infrastructure budgeting.

Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and analyses to the Board of Trustees and finance-related committees.

Develop multi-year financial models, forecasting, and scenario planning.

Advise the Head of School and Board on financial trends, risks, and opportunities.

Lead annual budgeting processes, aligning resources with strategic goals.

Ensure accurate and timely monthly closes, reconciliations, and financial statements.

Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.

Oversee tuition billing, payment plans, financial aid disbursement accounting, and collections.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant nonprofit accounting standards.

Manage annual audits, preparing schedules, documentation, and coordination with auditors.

Manage risk assessment and insurance coverage for the school.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings and financial reporting requirements.

Support regulatory filings associated with endowments, grants, and restricted funds.

Partner with HR on payroll, benefits administration, and personnel budgets.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field is required.

CPA preferred.

Five years of experience in a CFO, controller, or similar role.

Extensive background in finance, budgeting, investing, and cash management.

Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).

An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

The majority of work will be performed in an office environment. Must have the ability to sit at a computer and keyboard for substantial periods of time and mobility sufficient to move about the campus.
