Role Description

The Senior Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the strategy, execution, and delivery of innovative products from concept to market and their continuation engineering. This role requires a dynamic leader who can drive cross‑functional collaboration, oversee engineering teams, and ensure alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in life science and IVD product development, engineering leadership, and a deep understanding of emerging technologies and market trends.

Key Responsibilities

Define and execute the product development roadmap in collaboration with executive leadership.

Drive innovation and technical excellence in product design, ensuring scalability, quality, and cost‑effectiveness.

Lead the engineering team through the full product lifecycle, from ideation to commercialization and structure the engineering organization to effectively provide continuation engineering on existing products.

Ensure product designs align with customer needs, industry standards, and company strategy.

Build, mentor, develop, and lead a high‑performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Set clear objectives and key results for teams and individuals, ensuring accountability and alignment.

Promote a culture of innovation, efficiency, and technical excellence across the engineering organization.

Work closely with Product Management, Assay Development, Tech Transfer, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of engineering initiatives.

Partner with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to optimize product cost and manufacturability.

Serve as a key technical liaison between internal teams, customers, and external partners.

Support and as required implement best practices in product development methodologies.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design, development, and testing processes.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and safety guidelines.

Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to drive product differentiation.

Evaluate new technologies and materials to enhance product performance and sustainability.

Identify and implement new tools and methodologies to improve development speed and product quality.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or a related technical field.

15+ years of experience in product development engineering, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.

Proven track record of successfully launching complex products in a fast‑paced environment.

A systems thinker with strong technical expertise that can be brought to bear across the engineering disciplines.

Experience with Agile, critical‑path and stage‑gate tools, design methodologies, and product lifecycle management.

Strong business acumen, with the ability to balance technical decisions with business objectives.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience in managing geographically distributed teams is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in life sciences, IVD or related industries and markets.

Understanding of regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO, FDA, CE, etc.) and their applicability (and non‑applicability) to the products under development and/or supported.
