We are seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to support U.S. DoD activities.
The engineer will be part of an Integrated Program Team (IPT), design and implement complex firmware solutions on FPGAs, SoCs, and CPLDs, and will perform laboratory integration, test and evaluation, fault isolation of prototype hardware, and system qualification testing support.
The role is based onsite in Largo, FL.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop system and/or FPGA architectures based on high‑level requirements
Conduct target‑device trade studies, recommendations, and selection
Generate firmware requirements based on the system architecture
Create firmware documentation describing the firmware architecture
Design Hardware Description Language (HDL) based digital circuits that are structured and readable
Build test benches to verify/test HDL‑based designs
Generate constraints for target device
Create scripts to automate build, integration, and test activities
Verify target device functionality in a laboratory environment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related STEM field
Minimum 6+ years of experience in digital hardware design and verification, or an advanced degree with 4+ years of experience
Experience completing multiple designs for various devices and applications
Experience with communication interfaces and bus standards (e.g., SPI, I²C, PCIe, UART, Gb Ethernet)
Experience with test and verification approaches (logic analyzers, high‑speed oscilloscopes, signal generators, debugging tools)
U.S. citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
Residence within commuting distance to Largo, FL or willingness to relocate
Strong written communication skills and strong attention to detail
Effective collaboration with customers, cross‑functional teams, and stakeholders
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new technologies
Preferred Qualifications
Technical leadership and experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)
Experience in cost/schedule estimation and technical documentation for contract deliverables
Embedded processors and SoC development on FPGA devices
FPGA design implementation with VHDL
Red/black separation and redundancy concepts
OpenVPX technology including VITA standards
MATLAB and Simulink for digital signal processing designs (floating & fixed point)
Mentor Graphics, Synopsys, or Cadence simulation tools
AMD (Xilinx), Intel (Altera), Lattice, or Microsemi (Actel) FPGA development tools
Scripting in TCL, Perl, or Python
FPGA development on Linux Operating System
ADA Notations
Regular communication (hearing/speaking)
Noise conditions range from very quiet to very noisy
Prolonged use of computer (typing/keyboarding)
Frequent requirement to sit for long periods, stand, and walk
Ability to travel by car, air, or other means of transportation if required
