Court Advocate Join the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES) to serve individuals with criminal legal involvement. The Court Advocate will work with the ROAR (Reframing Opportunity, Alternatives & Resilience) team to reduce reliance on correctional institutions and help NYC close Rikers Island by 2026.

Job Summary The role is full‑time Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. The salary is $60,000 per year. Shift hours: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. Location: 151 Lawrence Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Workplace flexibility: staff can work from home after reporting to the office or field work.

Responsibilities

Engage potential participants and legal representation in court and advocate for diversion enrollment.

Accompany participants to all court appearances and provide written and verbal advocacy.

Effectively manage crises and ensure participant safety and well‑being.

Write professional court‑ready reports in compliance with ATI requirements.

Collect and track intake, re‑arrest cases, and warrants.

Notify the court when participants are non‑compliant, missing, or rearrested.

Maintain professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, probation, and other partners.

Collaborate with ROAR teammates to ensure community supervision conditions are met.

Participate in case reviews and develop ongoing supervision and treatment plans.

Mentor less experienced teammates in court procedures.

Participate in clinical supervision, staff meetings, training programs, and quality improvement activities.

Complete all documentation, including Salesforce database entry.

Provide culturally competent oversight and management in accordance with CASES policies.

Required to be in court or office five days per week; expected to provide cross‑borough coverage as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned by Team Leader.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work.

Highly articulate, resourceful, and professional; able to present detailed, persuasive arguments in court.

Ability to work independently and effectively with a diverse group of participants and staff.

Excellent analytical and written skills.

Interest in and sensitivity to issues facing individuals involved in the criminal legal system.

Preferred Skills

Fluency in Spanish.

Experience working with individuals involved in the criminal legal system.

Experience working with youth and young adults and people with mental illness.
