Distribution Overhead Groundman – Alabama
Join us at Electra Grid Solutions. The role supports construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead power lines in Alabama. This full‑time, non‑exempt position reports to a Crew Foreman and requires safety‑focused, dependable candidates.
Job Summary The Private Utility Distribution Overhead Groundman ensures safe and efficient field operations through hands‑on support, material handling, and site preparation. The role works under a Foreman and with a skilled crew, contributing to utility infrastructure projects in dynamic outdoor environments.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Perform manual tasks related to overhead power line construction and maintenance, including digging trenches, setting poles, installing wires and transformers, and routine line maintenance.
Assist linemen with elevated tasks and equipment handling.
Assemble and stage materials, hoist tools and supplies using handlines.
Fill pole holes and trenches with hand tools such as shovels and tampers.
Flag traffic and support job site setup and safety compliance.
Maintain organization of tools and materials on service vehicles.
Clean and organize job sites after work, ensuring safety and readiness for inspection.
Follow all company safety protocols and participate in safety training.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
Valid CDL Class A license preferred; must obtain within 90 days of hire if not already held.
Must pass drug screening, alcohol test, background check, clearinghouse, and MVR check.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and to work in remote locations for extended periods.
Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement conditions.
Willingness and ability to work overtime, including nights and weekends, as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic understanding of utility operations and power distribution systems.
Excellent attention to detail, safety awareness, and accuracy.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions
Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and wind.
Exposure to electrical hazards, heavy equipment, and construction site conditions.Frequent travel to various job sites with occasional overnight stays.
Work hours may vary depending on project requirements and emergency response situations.
Physical Requirements
Must lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, standing, and lifting for extended periods.
Use of hand and power tools involving substantial hand, wrist, and finger movement.
Required close visual acuity for reading instruments, measuring distances, and performing detailed tasks.
Must wear and operate all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
