INSTRUCTOR, 106 PSYCHOLOGY AND THE CREATIVE MIND (GENERAL EDUCATION) Term: January 12, 2026 to April 24, 2026

Class Meeting Time: Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pacific (synchronous online)

Modality: Fully online (live instruction with required student-faculty interaction)

San Francisco Film School (SFFS) prepares emerging filmmakers and creative professionals through industry-aligned, career-focused education. We are seeking an outstanding instructor to teach 106 Psychology and the Creative Mind. This general education course develops foundational psychological literacy and applies it to creative practice and film analysis.

This course identifies theoretical underpinnings of significant areas of psychology, including personality, social and environmental influences, development, and physiology of behavior. Students learn different models of human behavior and human meaning-making as they relate to aesthetic experience and the psychosocial impact of films. The objective is to develop a deeper understanding of how the filmmaker’s personal psychology influences their creative process.

Position summary The Instructor for 106 Psychology and the Creative Mind delivers rigorous, engaging online instruction aligned with course outcomes, supports student success through timely feedback and communication, and maintains accurate academic records. The instructor collaborates with SFFS academic leadership to refine and strengthen the course syllabus, learning activities, and assessments to meet institutional standards and accreditor expectations.

Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities Instruction and learning experience design

Teach a three-hour weekly synchronous online class session (Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PT).

Deliver instruction that is academically rigorous, well-organized, and aligned to stated course outcomes and competencies.

Facilitate meaningful instructor‑student and student‑student interaction in the online environment.

Implement learning activities that connect psychological concepts to film, creativity, and audience impact (discussion, case analysis, applied reflection, and film-based inquiry).

Maintain an inclusive learning environment and uphold clear academic expectations and community standards.

Assessment and feedback

Develop and evaluate assessments aligned with course outcomes (for example: applied reflections, projects, and a film-based analysis presentation).

Provide timely, constructive feedback and post grades in accordance with SFFS policies and schedules.

Track student progress and intervene early when performance or participation indicates risk.

Course administration and collaboration

Use SFFS instructional systems (for example, the institutional LMS and videoconferencing platforms) to post materials, manage gradebooks, and communicate with students.

Hold regular office hours and respond to student communications professionally and promptly.

Support continuous course improvement, including targeted refinement of the syllabus and instructional materials in collaboration with SFFS academic leadership.

Compliance and documentation

Maintain accurate records for attendance and academic performance in alignment with institutional and accreditor requirements.

Participate in required training for faculty who teach using distance education technologies.

Serve as an employee of the institution while delivering instruction in an online format, consistent with online education expectations.

Workload and paid administrative time SFFS provides

paid administrative hours at a 1:1 ratio

(one administrative hour for each teaching hour) to support:

Course preparation and weekly instructional planning

Office hours and student support

Assessment, grading, and feedback

Required student communications and coordination

Required meetings, training, and course improvement work

Qualifications Applicants must meet

both

SFFS standards and accreditor-aligned general education faculty expectations.

Master’s degree

from an accredited institution with documented graduate-level coursework in Psychology.

Minimum disciplinary credit requirement : At least

15 semester credit hours (or 23 quarter credit hours) in Psychology

(graduate-level strongly preferred) with a grade of

C or higher

in the discipline coursework, consistent with COE general education faculty qualification criteria.

Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in a synchronous online environment, including facilitation of discussion and applied learning.

Strong written communication skills and a commitment to timely, professional student communication.

Ability to evaluate student learning using clear criteria and provide actionable feedback.

Preferred qualifications

Master’s degree in Psychology (or closely related field) and teaching experience in higher education.

Background in one or more of the following areas: social psychology, personality, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, psychology of creativity, media psychology, or psychology of storytelling.

Demonstrated experience teaching film‑or media‑connected psychology content, or designing interdisciplinary learning experiences for creative students.

Experience building well-aligned syllabi, assessments, and rubrics for credit‑bearing general education courses.

Compensation $60 hourly
