Tutoring takes place from Monday through Thursday between 8am and 3pm.
Commit to leading two one‑on‑one, 45‑minute tutoring sessions with a student grade K‑4 on a weekly basis.
Follow the Reading Partners structured curriculum.
Sessions are held at the same day/time and with the same student each week.
Tutors should arrive/log on for their session at least 20 minutes early.
Follow the guidelines in our Tutor Code of Conduct.
Tutor Options In‑person tutoring at one of our reading centers in the following neighborhoods: Lower East Side, Central Harlem, East Harlem, South Bronx, South Jamaica (Queens), Bed Stuy and Cypress Hills (Brooklyn).
Virtual tutoring: Tutor at home via a secure Zoom meeting room.
All lesson materials are provided. Reading Partners provides ongoing coaching and support.
Requirements A positive attitude toward learning, diversity, and students.
An ability to interact effectively with diverse student populations.
Complete a volunteer application and a background check with the NYC DOE.
Complete a 1.5 hour orientation to learn the basics of our program.
For in‑person tutoring: follow schools and Reading Partners COVID policies.
For virtual tutoring: access to a reliable protected wifi, computer with a webcam and microphone.
Population Served: Families, low‑income communities.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 14+; Minimum Age: 14+.
