SENIOR DIRECTOR, HARDWARE AND VIRTUALIZATION ADMINISTRATION Apply to the role at

The Department of Social Services (DSS) includes the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). The Information Technology Services (ITS) organization supports these agencies by maintaining and enhancing technology infrastructure and applications.

Responsibilities

Develop, recommend, and manage cloud, virtual, and hardware infrastructure, applying VMware and Microsoft engineering methodologies and advocating for exceptions to established best practices to achieve ITS project objectives.

Ensure VMware, Microsoft, Windows, vendor hardware, and software components operate accurately and efficiently within ITS I&O Operations; troubleshoot issues with ITS teams and external vendors to maintain business continuity.

Lead ITS teams in executing engineering, operational, cloud, and virtualization workflows, including capacity planning tools focused on speed to market, ROI, and business value. Serve as lead engineer for modernizing the agency’s cloud and VMWare virtual and hardware infrastructure.

Collaborate with administration, business users, and the VMware and Microsoft teams to architect, engineer, and deploy modern technology, working daily with developers and business relationship managers to support customized solutions.

Stay current with emerging technologies such as cloud platform services, private cloud, hyper‑converged infrastructure, composable infrastructure, virtual backup, and VDI; evaluate and incorporate beneficial technologies into existing infrastructure.

Define engineering requirements based on business needs and objectives; deploy tools such as VCloud, VRealize Operations Manager, VRealize Automation, vCenter, ESXi, NSX, and Horizon View to meet business requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree in computer science and three (3) years of progressively responsible IT experience, including 18 months in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity.

Or a bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of progressively responsible IT experience, or

A high school diploma and six (6) years of progressively responsible IT experience.

At least three (3) years of experience described above, including 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory experience.

Undergraduate credits may substitute up to two (2) years of required experience; graduate credits may substitute one (1) year of required experience, but not the 18 months of executive experience.

Preferred Skills

Expertise in virtualization technologies: VMware, RedHat, Microsoft Hyper‑V, and underlying server infrastructure.

Experience with HP, Dell, Hitachi, and IBM server hardware.

Strong partnership building, strategic planning, and execution abilities.

Deep understanding of current and emerging infrastructure technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to business leaders.

Hours/Shift Monday to Friday; 9:00AM – 5:00PM
