Position Summary The President/CEO serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce. This role is responsible for leadership, management, and strategic direction of the Chamber’s programs, partnerships, advocacy efforts, events, and may be involved in economic development initiatives. The President/CEO works closely with the Board of Directors, business leaders, city officials, and community stakeholders to promote and support a thriving local economy and vibrant business community.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategic plans that advance the Chamber’s mission and priorities.
Serve as the primary advisor to the Board of Directors; provide regular updates on operations, financials, and community initiatives.
Build and maintain effective relationships with members, city government, schools, nonprofit organizations, and regional partners.
Membership Growth & Engagement
Develop and execute strategies to recruit, retain, and engage Chamber members.
Cultivate strong member relationships and ensure high-quality customer service.
Design programs, benefits, and events that add value for members.
Prepare and manage the annual budget, maintaining fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Oversee financial operations including revenue development, billing, reporting, and compliance.
Seek new funding opportunities such as sponsorships, grants, and partnerships.
Operations & Administration
Oversee day‑to‑day Chamber operations and staff (2 employees, contractors, and volunteers).
Maintain accurate records, contracts, and policies.
Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and nonprofit governance standards.
Community & Public Relations
Serve as the public spokesperson for the Chamber.
Represent the Chamber at community events, business meetings, city council meetings, and regional gatherings.
Strengthen the Chamber’s visibility through marketing, social media, and media relations.
Manage the Kaufman County Leadership Council as defined in the Annual Contract.
Economic & Community Development
Work with city leaders and community organizations to attract, retain, and support local businesses.
Promote tourism, workforce development, downtown revitalization, and local shopping campaigns.
Identify opportunities for business expansion, entrepreneurship, and community improvement.
Event Planning & Program Management
Plan, coordinate, and execute Chamber events including networking events, ribbon cuttings, training sessions, annual banquets and fundraisers.
Oversee signature events that drive revenue and community engagement.
Evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business, Marketing, Public Administration, Communications, or related field).
Experience in nonprofit chamber leadership, economic development, community relations, government relations, or small business development strongly preferred.
Experience working with boards and volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders.
Financial acumen, including budgeting and reporting.
Experience with Quickbooks Online.
Event planning and project management experience.
Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Comfortable with public speaking, media interaction, and community outreach.
Proficiency in office software and social media platforms.
Working Conditions
Requires occasional evening and weekend work for events and meetings.
Must be able to travel locally and regionally.
Position may involve light physical activity during event setup.
Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and may include salary, performance incentives, and benefits as determined by the Board of Directors.
